We provide two types of examinations to assess your learning:
-
Cumulative Final Exam
This exam covers all the content from the mandatory chapters of the course. It is designed to evaluate your overall understanding of the material. -
Chapter-Based Exams
These exams focus on the content of the specific chapter you’ve just completed, allowing you to test your knowledge as you progress.
In this article, we’ll explain both exam types in detail and address common questions to help you prepare confidently.
General Concepts
Questions
Our exams include two types of multiple-choice questions:
-
Single-Answer Questions
These questions require you to select one correct answer. Full marks are awarded only if the correct option is chosen. -
Multiple-Answer Questions
These questions may have more than one correct answer. Partial credit is given for each correct response. A correct response means either selecting an option that should be selected or leaving unselected an option that should not be chosen.Scoring Formula:
[ Marks Awarded = Marks Available * (Responses Correct / Responses Available) ]

Lockout
An exam lockout occurs when you exceed the allowed fail limit for an exam within a course. If this happens, the course will automatically reset.
What does this mean?
- All progress in the course will be reset to the first page of each chapter.
- You’ll need to complete all required chapters again before you can retake the exam.
- In some cases, there may be a waiting period before you can attempt the exam again.
You can find details about lockout rules in the Course Settings section. If no lockout information is listed, then this feature does not apply to your course.
Exam Time Limit
Some exams include a countdown timer that shows the time you have to complete the exam. If the timer reaches zero before you finish:
- The exam will be submitted and scored immediately.
- You will not be able to answer additional questions or change previous responses for that attempt.
Important:
If you leave the exam page before completing it, the timer will continue to run for the full duration of the time limit.
To avoid losing valuable time, we recommend staying on the exam page until you finish your attempt.
Final Exams
Once you have completed all of the required chapters of your course, you will be prompted to start a Final Exam:
The same option is available in the Final Exam tab on your course page:
As soon as you start a new exam you will be directed to the exam page, giving you one last chance to ensure that you are ready to start the exam.
The first page of the exam page gives you the title of the course the exam is for as well as what the exam will be covering:
Clicking on the arrow on the arrow to the right will take you to the start page, this page contains all the relevant information on the examination itself. Pay special attention to the Failed Exam Attempt limit, as when this number is reached you may experience an Exam Lockout.
It also shows the minimum score required to pass the exam & the total time you will be given to take the exam:
When you click Start, you’ll enter the exam. You can leave the exam page and return later; however, the exam timer will not pause. The timer continues to run and will automatically submit and score your answers when time runs out. This will count as an exam attempt, so only start the exam when you’re ready to finish.
After completing the exam:
- You can review your answers as long as you remain on the exam page.
- Once you leave the page, answer review will no longer be available.
- You’ll also have immediate access to your Completion Certificate.
After returning to your course page, navigate to the Final Exam tab. Here you’ll find:
- Completion Certificate – Available immediately if you passed the exam.
- Retake Option – If you’re not satisfied with your score, you can choose to retake the exam.
The Edit Certificate button allows you to change your Exam address for up to 30 days after having taken it. Changing the address after the 30 day grace period is not allowed:
Your Completion certificate will always be available even after your access to the course content expires. Enabling you to always keep a record of your training.
Chapter Based Exams
We know your time is valuable, which is why we’ve introduced Chapter-Based Testing to make your training more efficient. With this approach, you’ll complete a short, single-topic exam after finishing each chapter.
Once you complete a chapter, you’ll be prompted to start the corresponding exam.
If you prefer not to take the exam immediately after completing a chapter, that’s perfectly fine! You can start it anytime by:
- Navigating to the chapter tile.
- Clicking the Exam tab at the bottom of the tile.
- Selecting Start New Exam.
When you click Start New Exam, you’ll be taken to the exam page. This gives you one final opportunity to confirm you’re ready to begin.
On the first page of the exam, you’ll see:
- The course title the exam belongs to.
- A summary of what the exam will cover.
Click the arrow on the right to navigate to the start page. Here you’ll find:
- The score required to pass the exam.
- The validity period of your completion certificate.
Clicking start will take you to your first question:
Once you’ve answered all the questions, click the Score button. This will:
- Calculate your responses.
- Display your final grade for the exam.
Important:
You have only one opportunity to review the questions from your exam attempt. Make sure to check them before leaving the page.
Take as much time as you need to review your exam questions. When you’re ready to return to the course page:
- Click the Back button near the top of the page.
- This button displays the name of your current course and will take you back to the course overview.
Returning to the exam tab of the chapter will indicate your previous score and if applicable allowing you to retake the exam:
Once you’ve completed all chapters marked as Required, you’ll be able to print your Completion Certificate.
As you pass exams for optional chapters, those topics will automatically be added to your certificate. To include these updates:
- Simply re-print the certificate after passing the optional chapter exam.
